This privacy policy is a translation of the Japanese original. In case of any discrepancy, the Japanese original prevails.

MindSeed Institute (“we” or “us”) sets out this privacy policy (“this Policy”) on how we handle users’ personal information in the services we provide on this website (“the Services”).

Article 1 (Personal Information)

“Personal information” means “personal information” as defined in Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information: information about a living individual that can identify a specific individual by name, date of birth, address, telephone number, contact details or other descriptions, as well as information that can identify an individual on its own, such as facial features, fingerprint or voiceprint data, or the insurer number on a health insurance card.

Article 2 (How We Collect Personal Information)

We may ask for personal information such as your name, address, telephone number and email address when you register to use the Services. We may also collect records of transactions between you and our partners, and information about payments, from our partners (including information providers, advertisers and advertising outlets).

Article 3 (Purposes of Use)

We collect and use personal information for the following purposes:

  1. To provide and operate our services
  2. To respond to inquiries from users (including identity verification)
  3. To send information by email or other means about new features, updates and campaigns for services you use, and about other services we provide
  4. To contact you as necessary, such as for maintenance or important notices
  5. To identify users who violate the terms of use or try to use the services for fraudulent or improper purposes, and to refuse their use
  6. To let users view, change or delete their own registration information and view their usage status
  7. To bill fees for paid services
  8. For purposes incidental to the above
Article 4 (Changes to Purposes of Use)
  1. We may change the purposes of use of personal information only when the new purposes are reasonably recognized as being substantially related to the previous ones.
  2. If we change the purposes of use, we will notify users of the new purposes by a method we prescribe, or publish them on this website.
Article 5 (Provision to Third Parties)
  1. We will not provide personal information to third parties without the prior consent of the individual concerned, except in the following cases and except where permitted by the Act on the Protection of Personal Information or other laws and regulations.
    1. When it is necessary to protect a person’s life, body or property and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the individual concerned
    2. When it is especially necessary to improve public health or promote the sound growth of children and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the individual concerned
    3. When it is necessary to cooperate with a national agency, a local government, or a party entrusted by either of them in carrying out affairs prescribed by law, and obtaining the consent of the individual concerned is likely to impede those affairs
    4. When the following matters have been notified or announced in advance and we have filed a notification with the Personal Information Protection Commission of Japan:
      • That the purposes of use include provision to third parties
      • The items of data provided to third parties
      • The means or method of provision to third parties
      • That provision of personal information to third parties will be stopped at the request of the individual concerned
      • The method for accepting requests from the individual concerned
  2. Notwithstanding the preceding paragraph, in the following cases the recipient of the information is not considered a third party:
    1. When we entrust all or part of the handling of personal information to the extent necessary to achieve the purposes of use
    2. When personal information is provided as part of a business succession due to a merger or other reasons
    3. When personal information is used jointly with specific parties, and the individual concerned has been notified in advance — or it has been made easily accessible to them — of that fact, the items of personal information used jointly, the scope of joint users, their purposes of use, and the name of the person or entity responsible for its management
Article 6 (Disclosure of Personal Information)
  1. When an individual requests disclosure of their personal information, we will disclose it without delay. However, we may decline to disclose all or part of it if disclosure falls under any of the following, and in that case we will notify the individual without delay. A fee of 1,000 yen per request is charged for disclosure of personal information.
    1. When disclosure is likely to harm the life, body, property or other rights and interests of the individual or a third party
    2. When disclosure is likely to seriously interfere with the proper conduct of our business
    3. When disclosure would otherwise violate laws or regulations
  2. As a rule, we do not disclose information other than personal information, such as history information and characteristic information.
Article 7 (Correction and Deletion)
  1. If personal information about a user that we hold is incorrect, the user may request its correction, addition or deletion (“correction, etc.”) through the procedure we prescribe.
  2. When we receive a request for correction, etc. and find it necessary, we will make the correction, etc. without delay.
  3. When we make a correction, etc., or decide not to, we will notify the user without delay.
Article 8 (Suspension of Use, etc.)
  1. When an individual asks us to stop using or to erase their personal information (“suspension of use, etc.”) on the grounds that it is being handled beyond the scope of the purposes of use or was obtained by improper means, we will conduct the necessary investigation without delay.
  2. If, as a result of the investigation, we determine that the request should be honored, we will carry out the suspension of use, etc. without delay.
  3. When we carry out the suspension of use, etc., or decide not to, we will notify the user without delay.
  4. However, if the suspension of use, etc. would be very costly or otherwise difficult, and alternative measures necessary to protect the user’s rights and interests can be taken, we will take those alternative measures.
Article 9 (Changes to This Policy)
  1. Except as otherwise provided by law or by this Policy, the contents of this Policy may be changed without notice to users.
  2. The revised privacy policy takes effect when it is posted on this website.
